New Beginnings

New Beginnings

I have found it to be a spiritual truth that no matter what is happening, there is always the opportunity for a new beginning. After all, any one of us can choose to start our day anew at any moment! All we have to do is turn within in sacred contemplation, and make the decision to begin again.

And although there are many ways to do so, all that matters is that we are comfortable with our way. The Spirit is always present! I just need to remember to take a moment to touch that truth once again.

One practical way we can change our consciousness if we’re having a challenging day is to make a gratitude list. I’m often surprised how quickly the ideas come after I break through the initial resistance. Grab a pad of paper and pen (or tablet or laptop) and look around at your surroundings, jotting down anything you can find any way to be grateful for.

Once we have just a handful of things, they tend to multiply. And where it seemed difficult to come up with the first several, it gets easier as I build the list, and my spirit starts to shine once again.

Right now I am grateful for the comfy chair I am sitting in! I write that down. I can hear birds chirping outside and it makes me smile. I put that on my list. The trees are a beautiful green right now as I look out the window. That goes on the list. I hear the HVAC fan blowing, and I’m grateful for the comfort it is creating. On the list.

And by this simple practice, we can claim a New Beginning, anytime, anywhere! Thank you, God!

“So if anyone is in Christ [consciousness], there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, everything has become new!” 1 Corinthians 5:17

If you want to find others who live this way every day, I invite you to join us Sunday mornings at 11:00 am for a free celebration of the power of Spirit in our lives through meditation, music and message. UnityColumbia.org
